Welcome to the Chiefs Website

Welcome to the Chiefs Hockey Club site

Chiefs Families,
As you likely heard, on Tuesday the state of Illinois announced we would be subject to a Tier 3 mitigation plan beginning Friday, November 20. The new mitigation requirements are designed to combat the surge of COVID-19 and include a pause of all indoor group sporting and recreational activities.
The full mitigation plan can be seen here:
As a result of these mitigation requirements the Chiefs Hockey Club Board of Directors has approved a pause of all in-state club activities until further notice. This pause is effective as of Friday, November 20.
The Board of Directors will be meeting weekly to continuously review the pause status and will communicate updates as they are available.
As noted in the club communication from 8/15, we collectively anticipated this dynamic season could see holds/pauses, restarts and possible cancellation.
We do not anticipate cancellation at this point and will do everything we are able to ensure your player is back on the ice as soon as feasible and that he/she gets the originally budgeted ice.
In anticipation of this pause, the club has purchased limited ice at the Elmhurst YMCA to help keep the rust off. The state mitigation plan, unfortunately only allows 10 persons or less at outdoor practices. Chiefs Vice President, Dave Rychley will be working with interested coaches to equally distribute this ice to teams. Coaches will then offer these slots to families on a first come first serve basis. Since the club expects to eventually deliver all originally planned ice at the Edge, the YMCA ice is in addition and will be paid for by participating families. Your coach and manager will eventually provide pricing details as well as other health and safety information. Please do not contact your coach until he reaches out to you.
We share your presumed disappointment in the news of this required pause. Your Board of Directors will do everything we are able to get back on the ice as soon as feasible.

Chiefs Team Practices

As you prepare for the Team Practices, please keep the following in mind:

  • As always, plan on bringing full gear, including mouth and neck guards (and CDC approved face masks)! Chiefs jerseys are not required.
  • Ensure your skates are sharp!
  • Goalies should attend their level clinics in full, goalie gear.

As you saw in our communication on August 15, the club is required to operate under the state’s Level 1 rules.

Today, the Edge Ice Arena sent the attached/linked rules. If you participated in the Chiefs June, July or August clinics, many of these rules will look familiar. Please review these rules right away and be sure you understand them. Do not be surprised at clinic one.

The Edge Ice Arena Rules include some, but not all of the following:

  • CDC approved face coverings are required for players when entering and exiting the rink and by coaches at all times. Players will not be allowed to enter the building without a face covering. Face coverings are not required on ice for players.
  • Players must arrive and leave with full gear on, including skates. Appropriate skate guards are required to a long walk to and from cars.
  • Parents are not allowed in the building.
  • There will be no shared water bottles - players may bring their own, with their name clearly noted on it.
  • Social distancing must be observed at all times by players.
  • Those who do to follow the rules, at any time, will be asked to leave the building and will be unregistered from the program. The next waitlisted player will take their place.
  • See attachment (link below) for all the rules.
Since your player's safety is our #1 priority, during the season please inform us of the following to help maintain a healthy program:
  • If your player tests positive for the virus, please contact me or a Chiefs Board member, or
  • If your player has come into contact with someone who has tested positive to the virus, within the past two weeks, please contact me or a Chiefs Board member

Any player or family identity will be kept in confidence to the Chiefs Board of Directors.

Finally, given our priority for safety, the Chiefs Hockey Club expects all families and players to known, understand and abide by club, state and Edge Ice Arena rules. Among these rules is for players to not participate in contact sports or competitive play during Level 1. Doing so may place other players (who are following the rules) at risk.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or any Chiefs Board member.

Seeyou on the ice!

Go Chiefs!
